China's primary and secondary schools had introduced a ban on the use of mobile phones in classrooms, among broader efforts to protect students from Internet and video game addiction.

Mobile phones

According to a circular from the Ministry of Education (MOE) on campus phones, primary and secondary students should not bring mobile phones to classrooms.

The Ministry of Education states that if students are required to have a mobile phone at school, a special request must be submitted to school authorities along with the written consent of their guardians.

Once the application has been approved, students must surrender their mobile phones to the relevant school authorities upon arrival.

Phones would be kept together and in no way should they be allowed into classrooms, according to the circular.

Schools would take additional steps to better meet the needs of students to communicate with their parents by phone while on campus. (NAN / Xinhua)
